One of the strangest things I have seen was when the Lyonsi bred a large Carpinte went into breeding coloration right next to the pair.  She assisted the Lyonsi in keeping other fish away from the breeding site.  Unfortunately the Lyonsi did not know they were being helped and took the uninvited attention of the Carpinte as an intrusion.  Stranger yet within 12" of where the Lyonsi and Carpinte were nesting, a pair of African Lace Catfish were nesting as well.  I thought this unusual with the overall large footprint of the pond to have all three breeding in the same small area.

I wasn't sure of the sex of the Lyonsi when I got them.  I created this divided tank and kept rotating "cells" until two of them began to show interest in each other.
